Section 7 Expenses
Section 7 expenses are the "extras" — daycare, medical, post-secondary, big extracurriculars — that are paid on top of the basic monthly child support amount, usually split based on each parent's share of combined income.
Section 7 of the Federal Child Support Guidelines lists six categories: childcare needed for work or education; medical and dental insurance premiums for the child; health expenses over $100/year not covered by insurance (braces, glasses, therapy); extraordinary education expenses; post-secondary education; and extraordinary extracurricular expenses. Each parent pays their share based on income. Example: combined household income is $120K. Party 1 makes $78K (65%), Party 2 makes $42K (35%). A $1,200/month daycare bill is split $780/$420. You can also agree to a 50/50 split or any other ratio — proportional is just the default.
