SSAG
The Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines (SSAG) is a non-binding framework that gives a low, mid, and high range for spousal support based on income, relationship length, and whether children are involved.
SSAG is not a law — it is advisory. But Ontario courts and family lawyers use it as the standard reference. Two formulas: "without-children" formula (used when there are no minor children to support) and "with-children" formula (used when child support is also being paid, which reduces the spousal support range to leave room for child support). The framework produces three numbers: low (suitable when the payor has high necessary expenses), mid (the default most agreements use), and high (suitable when the recipient gave up career years for the family). Duration ranges from 50% to 100% of the length of the relationship, with indefinite support kicking in under the Rule of 65.
